Listening Report Structure

Your movie report should consist of three or four parts, all of them taken from the handouts that you downloaded from ESL Notes. If the web site is not available, here is a backup website where you can still download the same material: http://www.eslnotes.com.nyud.net. 
Please print out Parts 1, 2 and 3 (optional: not every handout includes this), and Part 5. Please answer the questions in Part 5. DO NOT print out the many, many pages of Part 4 (Words & Expressions)!

Please form a group of 3 or 4 people with some classmates. Then look at the movies listed on eslnotes. Find a good movie that you want to watch together. eslnotes 這個網站提供許多優良影片的學習資料：人物介紹、歷史背景、文化須知等等，還有單字片、語詳細解說。

1) Go to http://www.eslnotes.com/synopses-a.html and click on "Movie Menu" to choose one of the movies. Here is an example using the movie Amistad.

下載Microsoft Word格式最方便，可以剪輯自己需要的內容，也可以選擇自己需要的紙張（網站作者用美國紙張，同學複印之前最好改成世界標準 A4 紙張）

2) The Microsoft Word document starts with the Major Characters
(= most important people in the movie)

 

3) Some of the English is not very easy. You can use Google Translate to tell you the main idea. Be careful: some of this "translation" is VERY wrong! 靠Google 翻譯可以了解大意，但要小心：Google 翻譯常常會錯得很離譜！

6) Scripts are usually too long and too difficult. Use Google to see if you can find a movie transcript or subtitles online: "片名" & "subtitles" 或 "片名" & "transcript."

Midterm Topics: Cooking and Drawing

Our midterm will cover the two short video series we have watched.

The 1st series, with Leah Schaefer, was for cooking potstickers [the name is wrong: they should be called "ravioli"] (the complete series is here)

Something Left, Something Taken

After the midterm, we will be watching this lovely animation (you can watch it here first).

Something Left, Something Taken was made by Max Porter and Ru Kuwahata, a husband and wife team. Go here to see how they made the movie. This beautiful short film took them two years to finish!
